SEATTLE - For the first time since at least 1991, the first two plays from scrimmage of an NFL game resulted in interceptions. The winless Los Angeles Chargers (0-3) gave away possession on the first play from scrimmage when quarterback Justin Herbert's pass intended for Oronde Gadsden was intercepted by Seattle Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas at the Los Angeles 45-yard line. Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold promptly gave the ball right back to Los Angeles eight seconds later when his pass attempt to running back Emanuel Wilson was intercepted by Chargers edge rusher Tuli Tuipulotu at the Los Angeles 48-yard line. Los Angeles took a 3-0 lead shortly after, when the Chargers capped off an eight-play, 30-yard drive with a 40-yard field goal by Cameron Dicker. The sloppy start to Sunday's game continued when the Seahawks recovered a muffed punt by Chargers returner Derius Davis with 10:03 to go in the first quarter. Seattle scored one play later on a 23-yard touchdown pass from Darnold to Wilson, who started in place of injured running back Jadarian Price. The Seahawks led 7-3 with 9:55 remaining in the first quarter.
